- 12:00 Kelly Peterson and Jennifer Hillman, HSUS presents "Animal Activism in the Political Arena"
Kelly Peterson, Oregon Program Manager, The Humane Society of the United States, will discuss current state animal protection legislation, ranging from banning canned hunts, gestation crates for breeding sows, private ownership of dangerous exotic animals and defending Measure 18, a voter-approved ballot measure that banned the cruel and unsporting practice of bear baiting and hound hunting of bears and cougars.
Jennifer Hillman, Ballot Issues Director, The Humane Society of the United States, will discuss successful ballot measures in Arizona and Florida as well as statewide and national efforts to guarantee that farm animals have enough room to turn around, lie down, and stretch their limbs.

Saturday VEG 101 Workshops: Introduction to a Plant-based Diet
- 11:35-11:55 "Nutrition," presented by Tammy Russell, R.D.
The healthiest populations are those that eat completely or mostly vegetarian. Come and learn how to make your plant-based diet recharge your health.

- 12:20-12:40 "Introduction to Vegetarian Cooking with Grains and Legumes," presented by Julie Hasson.
Join Julie as she talks about how to easily prepare delicious vegetarian meals at home. Learn tips on incorporating beans and whole grains into your diet, proving that vegetarian food can be both healthy and enjoyable.
- 1:05-1:25 "Why Go Veg," presented by Maggie Raczek, M.A.
Maggie will discuss what inspires people to move toward a plant-based diet.

- 1:30-2:40 The excellent vegetarian cooking video, Compassionate Cooks, will be shown in its entirety.

There will be a brief Q&A at the end of each presentation. Additionally, staff will be available from 12:00 to 1:00 to answer general questions, except during Julie's presentation.
